Funding for Graduate School

Graduate Assistantships

These are provided by the university in exchange for work you perform and usually require 10 to 20 hours of work per week. Assistantships can be awarded based on need, academic merit or prior work experience. An assistantship award could include a combination of the following: monthly stipend, full or partial tuition waiver or both.

Usually the university will have a website posting Graduate Assistantships available on campus. If a listing is not available, contact the department you are applying to and ask if they know of any assistantship openings. In addition, look through the university's website for departments at the university that look of interest and e-mail the department and inquire about possible assistantship opportunities.

Types of Assistantships

Teaching Assistants •  Duties include teaching an undergraduate course part-time.
