| Career Advisement at SIUC
Career advising assists students in clarifying their life/career goals and in developing educational plans for the realization of those goals. The ultimate responsibility for making decisions rests with you, the student. Advisors and counselors can help monitor your progress and suggest the use of institutional support services.
If you have indicated a program of interest, it would be feasible to visit the applicable academic department for advising. If you are undecided about a program of study, you may wish to talk with an advisor in
the Career Development and Resource Clinic (CDRC) in the Psychology Department
. The CDRC career counselors assist the undecided students with their career exploration. In addition, students are highly encouraged to discuss their career aspirations with academic department faculty and staff. These knowledgeable individuals are not only available to provide success tips within the career field but can also work with you on such issues as making the transition to college, going on to graduate/professional school, and/or making the transition to the world of work.
The following are examples of topics you may choose to discuss with a counselor in CDRC or academic department faculty/staff:
- Choosing a major
- Career exploration
- Difficulty making decisions
- Not sure as to how your academic background fits with your career plans
|
- Career interest assessment
- Career resources
