Information Sessions

Pre-Interview Presentations

Information sessions or pre-interview presentations allow recruiters the time to give more details and specifics and are useful in relaying information that you might not have time for during Job Fairs or private interviews. In a small group setting, recruiters can talk not only about particular job opportunities, but they can also inform potential candidates on topics such as organizational structure and environment, what it takes to be successful, the typical line of progression/promotion, future plans, etc.

Timing for an on-campus presentation is usually scheduled a few weeks before a company or organization has scheduled on-campus interviews.
  • To increase the number of candidates for interviewing, consider holding an on-campus information session before the cut-off application dates for interviewing. This will allow candidates to learn more about the company and positions available thus stimulating interest in interviewing.
  • To target the candidates accepted for interviewing you may want to hold a pre-interview session one or two nights before the scheduled interview.
Consider doing both if time and budget permit.

Advertising an on-campus presentation is critical to get the appropriate level of interest from students. Here are a few ways to increase awareness of your event.
  • Careers Services will notify students by email or send emails to students and faculty members in specific majors.
  • Consider purchasing an ad announcing the presentation in our campus newspaper, the Daily Egyptian, phone: 618-536-3311.
  • Employers may purchase air time on the student campus radio station, WIDB, phone: 618-536-2361.
  • Make contacts through various student organizations. The listing of registered student organizations is available on the SIUC Student Development website.
Generally, presentations are held during early evening in the SIUC Student Center. If you wish to present a program before scheduled campus interviews, please contact the Student Center Scheduling Office, phone (618) 536-6633 to reserve meeting rooms and request catering services and/or equipment.

After your presentation has been scheduled, please contact Career Services at (618) 453-2391 with the location and time. This is very important and we must have this information to advertise your event.
